Increased demands have been placed on those governing and managing charities as a result of changing legislation, a complex tax regime and the need to be accountable. We recognise that advising charities and not for profit organisations is a specialist area requiring a team of people with specialist sector expertise.
Our dedicated team is headed by Jane Marshall who is responsible for audit, accountancy and business advice to a wide portfolio of charities and other businesses. Jane is a member of the Charity Finance Directors’ Group and a Trustee and Chairman of the Fundraising Board at South Yorkshire Community Foundation.
Our dedicated team has considerable experience in advising over 170 charities and not for profit organisations, which vary in size from small trusts to large incorporated organisations.
We are familiar with the issues that the sector faces and can provide help in the following areas:
- Preparation of charity accounts that are compliant with the requirements of the Charities Act 1993 and the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP), whilst also ensuring that the activities and financial position of the client are presented in the most appropriate and effective form.
- Audits and independent examinations
- Advising on the appropriate treatment of specific funds
- Advising on efficient accounting systems
- Audits required by third party funders
- Tax planning
- Payroll and PAYE health checks
- HR consultancy
- VAT advice. For example, the VAT treatment of income streams, & VAT recovery on new build projects.
