Background
Barber Harrison & Platt was formed in 1970 in Sheffield when three long established firms of Chartered Accountants merged to form a new and forward looking practice, boasting an accumulated total of more than 250 years accounting experience and expertise. Since 1970, the firm has grown considerably and is now firmly established as one of the region's largest independent firms of Chartered Accountants and ranks within Accountancy Magazine's annual survey of the Top 60 firms nationally. In 1991 the firm acquired the business of Carlines, one of Chesterfield's largest firms, and later further strengthened the practice with the acquisitions of Moore Fletcher & Co and Cobden Board & Co, both significant Sheffield firms with excellent reputations.
The firm merged with Ingram Forrest Corporate Finance in 2006, giving BHP the largest and most experienced corporate finance team in the region.
In February 2011 BHP merged with the accountancy and advisory arm of Leeds and Harrogate based Mitchells Group.
